Fencing in Legana, Launceston
Most Legana blocks are new, and a lot of the estates carry a covenant that dictates what your fence is allowed to be. We ask for yours before we quote, so it goes up right the first time.
We build Colorbond, timber, pool, slat and rural fencing across Legana, from the new estates off the West Tamar Highway out to the bigger blocks on the fringe. It is a straight run north from the city, so getting here to quote and to build is easy.
Legana has two kinds of block and they need two different conversations. On a new estate the fence has to satisfy a covenant, and it often goes up before the neighbour has even built. Out on the acreage it is post and wire, ringlock and farm gates.

What Makes Fencing in Legana Different
Legana is newer and faster growing than most of the suburbs we work in, and that changes the job. We sort these four out at the quote, not halfway through.
Estate Covenants
Plenty of Legana estates carry a covenant or design guidelines that set the material, the maximum height, the colour and what is allowed forward of the building line. Build the wrong fence on a covenanted block and you can be made to take it down. We ask for the paperwork before we price anything.
No Neighbour Yet
On a new estate the block next door is often still vacant. There is no existing fence line to work from and nobody to share the cost with yet. We can build the run now and give you a written quote to hand over when someone does move in.
Bare, Exposed Blocks
A new estate block has no established trees and no windbreak yet. The valley wind hits the fence at full strength from the day it goes up, not in five years. On exposed boundaries we go deeper on the footings and tighter on post spacing.
Pegs, Not Old Fences
On an established street you follow the line of the old fence. On a bare Legana block there is nothing to follow, so the survey pegs are the boundary. We set out from the pegs, and if they are gone we tell you before we start rather than guessing.

Rules & Neighbours
Covenants, Neighbours and the West Tamar Council
Legana sits in the West Tamar Council area rather than the City of Launceston. On a new estate block there is a second rulebook as well, because a developer covenant can be stricter than anything council asks for.
A covenant or design guideline is a private restriction attached to the land, separate from council rules. It can limit the material, the height, the colour and whether anything is allowed forward of the building line.
We ask for your covenant or the developer's guidelines before quoting, so the fence we price is the fence you are actually allowed to build.
A dividing fence between two homes is generally a shared cost under the Boundary Fences Act 1908 (Tas). If the block next door is still vacant, that conversation happens later, so keep the written quote.
Most standard boundary fences do not need a council permit. Pool barriers sit under Tasmanian building rules rather than the fencing rules, and are handled separately.
We build to the standards and to the covenant as it is written. We are not the regulator, we do not certify barriers, and we do not give legal advice on covenants or fencing disputes. For anything contested, West Tamar Council, your developer and the Act are the places to check.

FAQs
Legana Fencing Questions, Answered
Yes, and it is a much easier job if you send the covenant or the developer's design guidelines with your enquiry. We price the fence that complies, so it does not have to come down later. If the wording is unclear we will say so rather than guess.
You do not have to. Plenty of owners here fence the boundary as soon as they move in, then sort the shared cost when someone builds next door. Keep the written quote and the invoice, because that is the number the conversation starts from.
Legana is in the West Tamar Council area, the same as Riverside, not the City of Launceston. Most standard boundary fences do not need a permit. Your estate covenant is a separate thing from council and can be stricter.
Yes. The larger blocks on the fringe are a regular part of the work out here, so post and wire, ringlock, stock fencing and farm gates are all standard for us. Same crew that does the suburban jobs.
It can be. There is nothing to break the wind on a fresh estate block, so an exposed run needs deeper footings and closer post spacing than a sheltered one. We work that out when we walk the block.
Tell us at the quote. With no pegs and no old fence there is nothing solid to set out from, and a fence in the wrong place is an expensive thing to fix. A surveyor needs to re-establish the boundary before we build.
